2024 has been a banner year for Dungeons & Dragons, with Wizards of the Coast ushering in the 50th anniversary of the game in addition to launching a new Player’s Handbook that offers some signification rules to DnD 5e. In more recent news, Wizards of the Coast held their event and announced a slew of upcoming titles.
So just what can we expect to see next for the world’s most popular TTRPG? Below we take a closer look at the complete DnD release schedule, breaking out all the new and upcoming books for the remainder of 2024 and 2025.
Current Releases in 2024
Below are all of the books that have already hit shelves in 2024.
The Book of Many Things
Release Date: January 5th, 2024
What Is It: Based on the legendary Deck of Many Things (a magical artifact that has destroyed its fair share of campaigns over the years), The Book of Many Things is a new DnD 5e box set that contains a deck of 66 specialty cards, an 80-page reference guide and a new 192-page sourcebook. Notably, the physical product was originally supposed to be released in November 2023, but was pushed back to January 2024 due to printing errors (although the digital version is currently available on D&D Beyond).
Descent into the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth
Release Date: March 25th, 2024
What Is It: This adventure will be a 5e update to the classic 1982 adventure module Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth, which was originally written by DnD co-founder Gary Gygax. The new adventure (which will only be available in a digital format on D&D Beyond) is a one shot that’s designed to be played in a single session. Additionally, the adventure will include a new “tournament scoring system” that’s similar to those run at game conventions in the 1980s, providing players with a rating on how well they performed during the adventure.
Vecna: Eve of Ruin
Release Date: May 21st, 2024
What Is It: Slated for release sometime in 2024, this new Vecna campaign will take players from Levels 1 to 20 as they journey through the multiverse and eventually face down the dreaded arch-lich himself. According to Wizards of the Coast, the campaign will also feature famous locations and characters from past and present DnD history.
The Making of Dungeons & Dragons: 1970-1977
Release Date: June 18th, 2024
What Is It: Billed as a “retrospective historical account” of the early days of Dungeons & Dragons, this new non-fiction book will feature original artwork, playtest materials, manuscript annotations and never-before-seen correspondence between DnD co-creators Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. The book was produced by noted game historian Jon Peterson and will also feature a complete version of the original rules, including random tables, page scans and concept art .
Quests from the Infinite Staircase
Release Date: July 16th, 2024
What Is It: Much like the adventure anthology Tales from the Yawning Portal, the upcoming book Quests from the Infinite Staircase will feature a collection of six classic DnD adventures updated to the new 5th edition rules. The book will also detail additional lore around the legendary “Infinite Staircase,” which allows individuals to traverse the multiverse. According to Wizards of the Coast, the book will also introduce a new character named Nafas, a powerful genie who hears wishes made throughout the multiverse and recruitsheroes to fulfill them.
New Player’s Handbook
Release Date: September 17th, 2024
Based on new rules materials from the ongoing One D&D Playtest, the new Player’s Handbook will be a retooling of the existing DnD fifth edition rules and is designed to make the game easier to learn and faster to play. The new PHB will include the 12 standard classes, along with 48 subclasses and 144 character background options. While it will be completely backwards compatible with all existing 5e materials, there are a number of new rules being added, including tweaks to classes, spells, races and the introduction of a new “weapons mastery” system that’s designed to make combat more cinematic.
New DnD Books Coming in 2024 and 2025
Below are the upcoming DND books still slated for release for the remainder of 2024 and 2025.
Worlds & Realms: Adventures from Greyhawk to Faerûn
Release Date: October 29th, 2024
is a 368 page illustrated book that explores some of the many locations in the Dungeons & Dragons multiverse, including Dragonlance, the Forgotten Realms,, Planescape, Spelljammer and Ravenloft. The book is narrated by the archmage Mordenkainen and features both new and existing artwork from various D&D sourcebooks, along with several new short stories written by a number of different game designers and fantasy authors.
New Dungeon Master’s Guide
Release Date: November 12th, 2024
What Is It: Another key part of the ongoing One D&D Playtest, the new 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide is designed to help both new and experienced DMs get up and running more quickly. The book will feature an enhanced content structure, new features (such as the Bastion system) and even a complete campaign world. It’s also expected to include more tips and tricks for novice DMs looking to cut their teeth on their very first adventure.
New Monster Manual
Release Date: February 18th, 2025
What Is It: The third part of the 2024 Core Rules update for fifth edition, the new 2025 Monster Manual will feature over 500 individual creatures, with tweaks made to better incorporate the new 5e rules updates and many of the elements included in third-party DnD monster books. In addition to changes to monster Challenge Ratings (CR), the book will also feature new monster lore and backgrounds, new artwork and the introduction of new monster “families.”
Dragon Anthology
Coming: Summer 2025
This new collection of 10 short adventures will be the first book to use the new DnD 2024 rules. As the name suggests, each adventure is focused around one particular dragon. The adventures will be suitable for a range of character tier levels and can be played together or run as individual one-shots.

DnD Starter Set
Coming: Fall 2025
Like past DnD starter sets, this will be designed for new Dungeon Masters and players to learn the basics of the game. The box set will include dice, character sheets and adventure based on the classic Keep on the Borderlands adventure module from 1979. The new adventure is tentatively entitled “Heroes of the Borderlands” and will be divided into three separate booklets: one focused on the titularKeep, one exploring the Wilderness and one centred around the dreaded Caves of Chaos.

Forgotten Realms Player Guide
Coming: Late 2025
In this new player-focused book, DnD returns to the Forgotten Realms, offering a ton of new rules options, including new subclasses, feats, backgrounds and spells. In addition it includes more lore and setting details and information on noteworthy factions like the Harpers, Zhentarim and Red Wizards of Thay.

Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide
Coming: Late 2025
Designed solely for Dungeon Masters, this new sourcebookgoes beyond the familiar and oft-explored Sword Coast region to focus on five key settings in Faerûn: Baldur’s Gate, Calimshan, the Dalelands, the Moonshae Isles and Icewind Dale. The book will also include adventure hooks, new monsters and new magic items.

Final Thoughts
It’s important to note that the DnD release schedule for the remainder of 2024 and 2025 may see changes in the coming months. In fact, the dates for many of these projects were initially posted on Wizards of the Coast’s official social media channels before quickly being taken down, so definitely aren’t set in stone. It’s also worth noting that virtually all of the 2023 products saw their release dates shifted out from last year’s DnD roadmap due to ongoing printing and supply chain issues.
